Good stuff.
Yes, the artist is good for the community. I am good for the community. I have to make a stand. You see, as a muse which Ii was I was told to be silent all the time so I have a great deal of difficulty of speaking out. But I, as an artist, use my artistic talent to create in many ways. This is what Mr. Goldsmith talks about. The artists have a particular talent of creating and this can be used in many positive ways for all sorts of civil causes.
Take Forward House where I lived. It was located, as a half way house, in a very dangerous very centrally located neighborhood. One of the first things I noticed was that community had inexpensive housing right near the central business hub. That is where all the cities cultural life took place. Now I wanted to go to these places and often I read about where and when they would take place. Our house was made up of a rag tag motley crew of all different kinds of nationalities. we all had lots of time on our hands. And a desire, to celebrate when we could.
As a muse, I knew the importance of clothing. So we literally sat down, and I told them to dress wild, like when they were going to parties when they were young. We all took our various personalities and yes we were a rainbow of colors and the effect was really striking. I said, say nothing and see what happens. What happened ?No one knew we weren'te friends. They assumed that we were and that we were international and sophisticated we never said anything so this is what they assumed. I suppose they also assumed we travelled around the world. And you know what, at as for me, I did the opportunity to go on many a very expensive private jet. This is despite not only extreme poverty, big trouble.
Years later, I was surprised to find out I had a reputation, and despite the fact I was living in great social trouble, as socialite. For example, literally, when I came out of Place des Arts, the most important performance hall in Montreal, I had fans waiting for me. A line of fans. I kid you not. You see, no one knew we were troubled. And we made it to looking like international jet setters. And by the way, sometimes I was taken all over the world. So despite, what seemed to be obvious, it was true.
Mr. Goldsmith calls it using your artistic capacities to create in other situations. I call it getting out of the box; looking at the world from another viewpoint. You know what. whatever you call it, it works. And not just for the artist, as the talented people who make Creative Insurgents show us, and Mr Goldsmith himself. Using your creative capacities as an artist broadly can change a city and give hope and direction to even the most troubled people amongst us.
I am thoroughly convinced that where ever I go, the art mind that I have within me, brings out the affluence in places that people did not even know it existed any more. For example you should see the parks that are growing around our house now. My God we are talking money. When I first arrived they were frankly killing people in them because they were parks. Honestly I am good.
