Dear Reader,
I hope you have been having a good day.
There is an Aesop story of the fox and the Grapes. There was a fox that was hungry and tired after a long, hot, dusty day.  As he sat down to rest he saw a beautiful bunch of perfect grapes glistening in the sun.  Alas, the grapes were easily visible but too high for him to reach.  He jumped and jumped and jumped but to no avail.  Finally the fox, disgusted with his lack of success said to himself that thegrapes were sour anyways.

Well a little while ago I met a similar fox.  His master placed a beautiful bunch of purple grapes high above him in a tree.  They were clearly visible and the little fox jumped and jumped trying to get at them.  And jumped. He must have jumped about four times his size up into the air.  And he was screaming all the time in fox.  FInally his master said.  Remember the story of the Fox and the Grapes? Well, this is not the same fox.  And he finally gave the grapes to the little fox who ate them with great enjoyment.

So I have bee thinking about two of the habits of my parents in the little town I came from.  My brother still lives there and he does the same.  The first one is placing your money in unnamed Swiss bank accounts.  the second habit is putting money aside each week for years to create a nestegg to do something important: Either retirement plans or college for the kids.

It occursto me as people do this they have neighbor who get to watch them from week to week and from year to year.  Like going to the bank. And these neighbors who watch and know that the bank account is getting fatter and fatter. And whats more, its always in the same place.  To me the money looks like one bunch of grapes glittering in the sun.

the second bunch is the Swiss bank account.  My mothrs family had an international account that was available to the family, including my mother in case of emergency.  Like if she was in trouble, she could used the money. Once in a while the family made it known that there was access to a large sum of money in case of trouble.  I thought it was to help the family get help and save themselves from whatever problem came up.  Unfortunately, this was another bunch of grapes. Why? Because the money was larger than anything that most people in her small community had.

Enter   the criminal elements.  I think they look like that fox that I saw.  They have years to do these.  And as they see these grapes glistening high above, they start to leap for them. Like the little fox they leap high, four times their height. even more.

the difference is these grapes don't go away. And unlike the fox, these criminal elements have a long time to examine them. And every time they are bored or tired or annoyed they amuse themselves by trying to get to the grapes.  They go through many ways to get to the nest egg and many ways to get to the Swiss bank accounts.  Unfortunately, in my case, they have done this with a great deal of success.

To sum up the whole idea of saving money in a bank or making money available for international families has to be thought through again.  Because in my particular case, these criminal elements, ie the foxes, have gotten the grapes, ie. the money. And hook line and sinker.
Well that's my story for the today.
